I'm looking at buying a used Savage, a model 72 if I remember correctly. It is a.22 single shot, falling block(I think), with an octagonal barrel and color case hardened frame. I was told it was bought some time in the 80's, and it seems to be in ok shape. The price is $120 before tax and registration. Is this a fair price?
How Do You Look up the Serial Number for Your Savage Rifle? Any Savage firearms constructed after 1968 should have a serial number, but many older model weapons may still prove difficult to look up. The gun manufacturer's web site does not contain serial information for any guns created prior to 1995. There is a special list created by the. I bought one of these last summer at a gun show in San Angelo from a Houston collector/dealer. Marked Model 72, 1950 - Houston Gun Collectors Association - 1983, One of Five Hundred, The Crackshot, savage address and.22 etc with the longer unpolished case colored frame (about 5') without a tang and stamped HGCA 117.
I would say it isn't in great condition but fair to good. Also, it has what appears to be a transfer bar safety but it is very loose. Is that the way its supposed to be? Any additional info about the value or history of this rifle would be appreciated. This email link is to reach site administrators for assistance, if you cannot access TFL via other means.
